Scranton school staff holds reunion

Staff from the former Scranton school held a get-together June 25, sharing hugs, catching up, touring what’s left of the building, taking pictures and reminiscing.

The 1919 three-story classroom structure is no longer there. It was razed 10 years ago, after being closed as an attendance center at the end of the 2007-08 school year. According to local history, a school had been at that location since 1875.

Most of the Scranton school staff continued their employment with the Jefferson-Scranton Community Schools, working in Jefferson when the Scranton school was closed.

Former Scranton staff at the reunion were (front, from left) Jan Morlan, Ann Hicks, Charlotte Schmidt and Bob Schmidt; (second row, from left) Connie Hoffman, Sue Turner, Lori Danner, Loretta Goughnour, Donna Goodell and Gail Huffman; (third row, from left) Cathie Reck, Carol Morlan, Jean Gliem, Barb Halverson, Michele Hardin, Dawn Rudolph and Delphine Wittrock; (fourth row, from left) Eric Ernst, Joelle White, Julie Karber, Ken Morlan, Kevin Richards, Kevin Paulsen and Mark Sawhill; (fifth row, from left) Karen Murphy ad Heather Berglund. Teresa Skalla is not pictured.

The city of Scranton purchased the rest of the building, including the gymnasium, in 2008 for $1. It now serves very well as a community center and city offices.
